Description:
LHCC has been invited to support the Municipality of Kincardine with installation of sand fencing at Inverhuron, a sand deposition zone at the mouth of the Little Sauble River. "Come to bat" for Lake Huron and learn about beach dune ecosystems.

Station Street Afternoon Planting Party!

Location: North end of Station Beach (Meet at northwest corner of parking lot)
Timing: 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Description:
Join us to learn about coastal processes and ecology. With temperatures cooling and plants in dormancy, this is the ideal time to transplant. The Lake Huron Coastal Centre, supporting the Municipality of Kincardine, plans to transplant dune binding grasses and collect native seeds. Seed dispersal and invasive species removal could also be in the party plan, as time permits.
Background:
This summer the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps, a week-long summer volunteer stewardship initiative, planned and planted two vegetation clusters immediately south of the pier, adjacent to the no swim zone. They also removed hundreds of micro plastic nurdle pellets from the sand in this area. Let's continue to build on this great effort!

Preparation:
-
Register online and complete the volunteer waiver form
-
Dress for the weather and bring water
-
Wear closed toe footwear
-
Bring gloves, protective eyewear, and ear protection for Inverhuron
-
LHCC can supply additional gloves, safety glasses and ear plugs

In case of inclement weather (lightning, pelting rain or ferocious winds) these events will be bumped to Friday, November 7.
Participants to be contacted by email if rescheduling required.
