40+ provincially significant (PS) plant species, 59 fish species, 5 PS reptiles, and 1 PS amphibian and 1 PS lepidopteran species live in or rely on Lake Huron's coastal wetlands

Coastal wetlands include wetlands directly on the lakeshore and wetlands located within 2-km inland from the high-water mark.

Coastal wetlands are influenced by the fluctuating water levels of the lake.
These are critically important features that act as water purifiers, fish spawning areas and feeding grounds and habitat for many animal species.
